Fair Trade Church Award 2025

01 October 2025 00:00

Livingston United Parish Church has been officially recognised as a Fair Trade Award Church, celebrating its long-standing commitment to ethical and sustainable practices.

The award, granted through the Scottish Fair Trade Forum and the wider Fairtrade Places of Worship initiative, acknowledges the congregation’s dedication to using Fairtrade products such as tea, coffee, and sugar, as well as its efforts to raise awareness of global trade justice. The church’s Barn Café has become a hub for Fairtrade refreshments, while seasonal initiatives like selling Divine chocolate Advent calendars and Easter eggs have further embedded Fairtrade into the life of the community.

Leaders at Livingston United Parish Church say the recognition reflects their wider mission to live out faith through action. Alongside their Eco-Congregation work, the church has consistently championed climate justice, supported Christian Aid campaigns, and encouraged intergenerational participation in caring for creation.

“This award is not just a certificate on the wall,” said Marjory McGhie the leader of the church’s Fair Trade group. “It’s a reminder that the choices we make here in Livingston can have a real impact on farmers and producers around the world.”
